Excerpt:
Grandfather Martin liked routine.
He also liked rules to follow,
things in their places, tidy houses,
clean shoes, and meals on time.
Grandmother Martin liked to do what she liked, when she liked.
She liked to work in her garden,
read a book, or paint a picture,
and she did not care what time it was.
When Grandfather Martin retires, something will have to change...

 Wendy's Comments:
Probably most of us know a couple who could be models for these characters - for me, it was my maternal grandparents. They were both warm and generous people, whom I loved dearly, but he loved order and routine, and she was a dreamier, artistic, gardener. The story's solution, though fictitious, is a tribute to their long and happy marriage.
