On Christmas in Australia, and new translations
Once again December seems to have taken me by surprise - and I have to admit that despite 27 years in Australia, I still associate Christmas with snow! (Although as we've never had snow in winter, it would be a terrible shock if it actually arrived in midsummer.) However, just outside my window there's a bright red parrot playing in a bushy, fresh green cherry ballart tree - as pretty as any Christmas decoration I could think of.

November was mostly devoted to writing a short story for the "Kids' Night In" anthology, but December brings me back to my new novel. Of course Christmas preparations do have a habit of intruding on writing time - it's not always the most productive month...

A bit of exciting news as publishers and agent all went to the international Book Fair in Frankfurt in October, (a chaotic place where every publisher from everywhere in the world tries to sell their books, or at least the right to publish their books, to every publisher in every other country in the world). Peeling the Onion will be published in Thailand; Mindblowing! and Nim's Island will both be published in Korea, and Nim's Island will be published in a Basque language edition by its Spanish publisher. It's always fascinating to see your work in a language you can't understand - a very strange feeling!

  happy reading... and Happy Christmas!
