 Getting closer!
Exciting news to start the new year - I can tell you the name of the company
who'll be making the film of Nim's Island. It is Walden Media - which all you
'Holes' fans might recognise as the name of the company who produced that
wonderful film, so we're in very good company! Paula Mazur is the producer,
and she will be writing it with the screenwriter Joe Kwong - and me in the
background. I get to do all the fun things like play with the ideas and talk
it over with them, and then they do the hard work of turning it into a
screenplay. It's very different from writing a book, so there's a lot to
learn, which I'm finding very exciting. So we'll start tomorrow, when it's
Monday in Los Angeles. The first thing to do is the treatment - so next
month, when I know what that means, I'll tell you about it...
Apart from that excitement, January should be a quieter month than December.
One of the highlights of the end of the year was a visit to Montmorency
Primary School for the Yr 6 graduation. It was inspiring to see the amazing
talent in that class, as they performed before I met them, and it was lovely
to meet them afterwards - a great evening. It was also a bit of a finale to
the eight weeks I'd spent chatting to kids around the world on the think.com
site, as it was a girl on that site who'd asked her teachers to invite me!
Hope that you all had just as special a holiday as I've had - with my
parents here from Canada, and my son and daughter both home from travelling,
it was a truly wonderful Christmas.
