 Following in Ruth's footsteps
There's been a change of scene for the July diary I'm writing this from England! Readers of The House at Evelyn's Pond might be interested to know that Tom and I have come here to combine celebrating its publication in the UK with seeing our son and meeting his new fiancée. (With a little twist of fact following fiction, our son left for a seven month trip a year ago, but met a Norwegian girl while travelling from Thailand to Laos... ) So life is strange, and very wonderful.
This week seems to be dedicated to following in Ruth's footsteps (ie, from The House at Evelyn's Pond). We spent the day in Oxford and toured the Bodleian library, where she met Miles but tomorrow is the real thrill. I will be going out to White Waltham airfield, where Ruth flew from, and weather permitting, will be taken flying to see it from the air as she would have. I'm then meeting one of the ex-ATA pilots and since I'm always advising novice writers to avoid too many adjectives, superlatives and exclamation marks, I'll simply say that I feel thrilled and honoured to be able to have this opportunity.
On the kids' books front, Nim has just come out in Germany with the title Wie versteckt man eine Insel? which translates as: How do You Hide an Island? Isn't that a great title?
