 An interesting month
Already a few days into September, and we've had some lovely spring weather and a hail storm as I write!
Spook's Shack is finally just about done. I emailed the last chapters of the last draft to my editor a week ago. She's printed it all out (adding in the emails I usually sent her the day after each chapter, when I'd woken up
realising there was a sentence I wanted to change one more time!) Now she's
made a few more suggestions on word changes, and a suggestion that one scene
I changed at the last minute was better before I changed it (and after
discussing it on the phone, I realise she's right). So today I'll start
reading it aloud for the last time, looking at her suggestions. If I agree
with them I'll go over her pencil marks in pen and then I'll go down to the post office and say goodbye to Jack Henry and Finn, at least until the
proofs come back from the typesetter for checking.
August was busy with talks for Children's Book Week, but September will be
about writing. I've promised the Melbourne Age newspaper an article on our trip to Switzerland, and will then go back to two smaller books for younger
children; I've been itching to get them sorted out and set their characters
free! After that, it's jumping into a new novel an interesting month!
