10.23.08: This is gorgeous, from a little girl doing distance education ( Anna in Victoria) These are the four short-listed stories in the UK Female First Competition at www.femalefirst.co.uk. I was thrilled to see the originality and imagination of the stories, as well as the quality of the writing. The writers all show talent and I hope that they will continue to write, experiment, and hone their skills. I have awarded first prize to "Precious Lily White" because of the strength of Sabrina's writing. The reader's pity for the central character turns to horror as this chilling story twists and turns! Well done to everyone who entered. (Please note that the remaining three stories are listed in alphabetical order, not by particular preference.)
Precious Lily White Silently, she sat in the cold dim room. Her bare feet touched the freezing floor. She blinked slowly and stared into the stained, peeling, musty, once white wall. She had no feelings, a blank face in an abyss of nothingness. How long had she been here? The days meant nothing; it was enough to send someone insane but not her, not Precious Lily White. ...the rest of the story.
Bailey Once upon a time, there was a sad little poor girl named molly. Molly lived with her mother .molly's live was awful. molly had brown hair,a blue ragged dress and brown shoes.molly and her mother lived in a little house by the sea,it only had two bedrooms,a small kitchen and a tiny living room. ...the rest of the story.
Extinct I was just sitting in the museum bored whilst my mum was looking around. When my mum came back she looked excited it’s like she was the little child in the museum. She said “let’s go to the animal part of the museum” she said it with so much enthusiasm. So I came along with her well I had to I had no choice. But then as I looked around I was rather happy that she took me there was amazing animals there from years ago who were now extinct. ...the rest of the story.
King Hendrick and The Evil Dread wing Once upon a time, on a scorching summers day, an evil dread wing was flying in space looking for some mischief. Suddenly the evil decepticon spotted a palace made of pure gold on a floating cloud. He flew to the palace and peered in through a window, he saw a little girl playing with some toys. Dread wing landed on the windowsill and began tapping at the window. Princess Christine looked up and saw an eagle at the window. Christine loved animals so she opened the window and let the bird in. ...the rest of the story. I am quite proud to share with you two very special pieces of art work sent to me. The first is a drawing of Nim and her friends by Tali, from Israel and the second which is a clay model of Nim's Island created by Kaya of Virginia, USA.
